Cafe Monarch – On a Whim
If nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies. ~Author Unknown
The whimsy of Cafe Monarch is apparent as soon as you step foot inside the gate and see where the name originates. I won’t give away the surprise but it is one of the first of many surprises that Chef Christopher has in store for you.
This charming and quaint place is brimming with enough eye candy to keep the creative types entertained for hours, all of it hand selected by owner/chef Christopher Van Arsdale. There is no detail left unattended to, including the bathroom which is an oasis of it’s own. The sign at the front door welcomes you with a promise, Feed the Soul, and Chef Christopher does not disappoint. This is not a dining experience for the unadventurous though; the menu changes daily and is at the whim of Christopher himself although he gladly caters to dietary needs with some notice.
Schmooze enjoyed a lunch of prosciutto panini’s but to tell you the truth, Chef Christopher won us over with the glazed pears ( contrary to popular belief, Schmooze is not easy!) dressed with a light citrus vinaigrette and gorgonzola. In addition we sampled the grilled turkey salad with fresh cranberries, brie and crostini, heavenly!
Lunch is a good entry level to experience this enchanting dining experience, priced at around $12.50 per plate. Dinner is priced at $45 per person for a three-course meal at the whimsy of the chef. Wine is byob with a corkage fee so bring your own and the check is cash only. Cafe Monarch is a favorite with the Sunday Brunch Crowd and at $20 per person, you can see why!
Oh and be sure to enjoy the butterflies, they appreciate the attention! By the way, Cafe Monarch closes during the summer months!
